Figure in their Environs — Edward Hopper

From the painter Edward Hopper, who often depicts people in urban architecture or in interior spaces in his paintings, I learned to relate the figure to the environment and thus increase its expression.

Using Hopper's pictures as an example, the course will teach you how to bring your character to life on the screen and turn it into a narrative in its snapshot. In addition to composition and colors, lighting is also an important means of expression.

You are welcome to work from your own photos or sketches during the course. In addition, we will prepare composition studies using models.

Requirements/participants:

Are you already able to paint a portrait, a nude, a clothed figure? They want to work on turning a successful study into an image, a convincing composition in which the character lives on the canvas and tells a story.

• canvas
• paper
• Brush for the painting technique of your choice (ideal for oil, but also suitable for acrylic, gouache..)
• Paper for studies in color
• pencil and small sketchpad
• Feel free to use your own printed photos as a template

For the model, an additional 15€ must be paid in cash on site.
