Drapery Studies
For the artist, garment studies include crafts, everyday life, modern themes of theatre, film, illustration, design, comics and finally painting and sculpture; it is a geometric interplay between softer fabric and underlying harder form; this topic must be dealt with professionally, it has its laws, it requires good observation, and the artist is thus proficient in covering, disguising and decorating people.
Many great painters and architects have worked with fabrics (Matisse, Le Corbusier, Dalí, Mucha...) the “concealment artist” Christo, who painted his draperies, as well as the theatre maker Robert Wilson when he sketches, hatches and spatially depicts his stage sets.
